Even if one day Yona will become lonely, I want to place by her side someone who will treasure her more than anyone else. Someone who will never betray her, no matter what happens.
The deuteragonist of Akatsuki no Yona, Hak (ハク Haku), is the former General and Chief of the Wind Tribe. He is an adopted grandson of Son Mundok, the adoptive brother of Tae-Yeon, and childhood friends with Yona and Soo-Won. Throughout Kouka, he is known as the “Thunder Beast” due to his outstanding fighting and combat skills.
Mei-Nyan relentlessly attempts persuade Hak to aid her in their escape to which she ultimately fails. She runs through the Hiryuu Castle in search for the royal garden, but faints from fatigue and is discovered and taken in by Yoon. Meanwhile, rumors spread of her escape and Hak's open cell door. Later, the delegates encounter General Vall while traveling home.
As the sole heir to rule over the Kingdom of Kouka, Yona, a 16-year-old red-haired princess, grew up sheltered from the harrowing reality outside the castle walls. After her beloved cousin, Soo-Won, staged a bloody coup and murdered her father, Yona was forced to flee with only Hak, her childhood friend and bodyguard, by her side. While on the run, she learns of an ancient prophecy that foretells of four legendary dragon warriors that are destined to stand alongside her as she fights to reclaim the throne.
