2nd August 2002: The 2002 Commonwealth Games was the biggest event to happen in Manchester for many years and Norris Cole was delighted to be accepted as a volunteer to help out. Annoyed at initially being placed at the entrance punching tickets, he set out to gain a greater part in the proceedings. His luck held up when he learned that the person assigned to deliver a gold medal to the podium had fallen ill and he persuaded the organiser to allow him to fill in. After making a hurried call to Emily Bishop asking her to record the proceedings, Norris soon found himself in the stadium where he was awed by the sheer spectacle. As he proudly delivered the medal and watched events unfold, his face was broadcast on international TV... however his luck then ran out as not one set of eyes in the Rovers was on the broadcast as the regulars were engrossed in a darts match while over at No. 3 the VCR ran out of tape seconds before Norris appeared. As a result, he got none of the glory he was expecting upon his return to the Street although he was cheered up when Nick Tilsley (the only person in the Street who did see what happened) congratulated him on his achievement before leaving for Canada.

Nina Lucas

Nina lucas 2024

Nina Lucas is the niece of cafe proprietor Roy Cropper, taken in by her uncle after her sickly father Richard Lucas passed away in 2019. A kind-hearted but complex young woman, Nina is rarely seen without her Goth attire and make-up, which she considers a part of her identity. In 2021, she and her boyfriend Seb Franklin were brutally attacked by Corey Brent and his gang, an attack which cost Seb his life. As the pair had been targeted due to Nina's appearance, Nina had a crisis of self, ditching the Goth clobber for a while. She overcame this in time to testify against Corey on a murder charge, but it wasn't enough to convict and Kelly Neelan was sent down for the crime instead. The conviction was quashed several weeks later when new evidence was found proving that Corey was the attacker.

Previous featured characters: Josie Clarke, Evelyn Plummer; Jacob Hay; Zoe Tattersall; Ivy Brennan; Oliver Battersby.

...that Stanley Wood, who wrote Episode 1237 (22nd November 1972), was the father of comedian Victoria Wood?
...that in Episode 1183 (17th May 1972), the character of Rita Bates gave her maiden name as "Foster" and not the later-established "Littlewood"?
...that although the character of Armistead Caldwell had died in 1935, his voice was heard in Episode 1256 (29th January 1973)?
...that the first ever repeat of an episode of Coronation Street was on Friday 10th February 1961 when strike action prevented the transmission of that night's edition and Episode 1 was shown in its place?
