Information
Gelioichthys (Gel-eo-ick-these; meaning "Evil Giggle Fish") is a semi-aquatic hybrid dinosaur. Originally known as Scylla (or Scyllaβ), it was one of the top 10 finalists in the 2018 Hybrid Contest but lost to the Avinychus. After the contest, Scylla became the devasaur of its original creator and in March 2022 would become a playable creature. In June 2024, Scylla received a redesign and was renamed to Gelioichthys.
Like the Avinychus, Gelioichthys will not become a limited edition playable.
Appearance
Adult
The adult Gelioichthys is a grey colored hybrid. Its jaws can split into 2 with each jaw having the teeth of a Dunkleosteus and Megavore, the splitting mechanizing allows it to split each jaw to the shape of a dragonfish's mouth. At its lower and upper jaws are barbels with 2 at the upper jaw and 1 at the lower jaw at each side, on its necks is a set of gills with 6 at each side.
It has a frill at the back of its head just like the Megavore with a set of 6 spikes like a lionfish. Its arms are at the same position as a Thanatosdrakon with 2 fingers at each arm with the rest of the arm having a long spike with 7 smaller spikes at its lower arm, after its spikes it has a small fin like Dunkleosteus.
Its legs are the same as the Megavore with a sail at their back, its tail is long like a boa constrictor with 2 sails one at its back of the tail and one at the lower part of its tail with the end having a webbed fluke, and across its body are glowing parts from its head to its tail.
Juvenile
The juvenile Gelioichthys is not as vibrantly colored as the adult, with a spikier throat, smaller whiskers, and shorter back spines. The neon markings are not as bright, and the tail fin is purple.
Baby
The baby Gelioichthys is palely colored with a blueish body with a purple tint, fewer neon markings, and no back spines. It lacks whiskers and has shorter claws on the tip of its wing-like arms. The neon markings are white, and the arm markings are light blue. Its tail fin is light purple, and it has only three spikes on its throat.

Trivia
- The Gelioichthys is the 4th hybrid, 2nd Semi-Aquatic Hybrid, and 111th dinosaur added into Dinosaur Simulator.
Information
Scyllaβ, or "Scylla Beta", is the original version of Gelioichthys. As Scylla, it was one of the top submissions that made it into the 2018 hybrid contest but lost, later becoming a devasaur for its creator. Years later, it became its own playable that all players could get.
Naming Convention
The playable was given the name "Scyllaβ", rather than "Scylla", as a measure to prevent players from using the actual devasaur in older versions of the game, a glitch notoriously performed with the Wyvern skin. However, beyond preventing abuse of the powerful devasaur, the main reason was to prevent data scrambling from performing the glitch. An anti-exploit method added in 2018 would destroy the data of players who played as devasaurs without actually 'owning' them in-game, something that wasn't previously there for Wyvern.
Appearance
Scyllaβ is a black hybrid, its lower jaw is split into 2 parts with each part of the jaw having 4 teeth, it has 2 mantis-like forelimbs with each limb having 2 spikes between the upper and lower arms, and it also has flattened tail similar to that of Mosasaurus with that extends when coming closer to the end of its tail. It has plates on its back. At the beginning of its tail, it has a shark fin. The head also has a purple tissue that is thought to cover its brain. It has gill slits on its neck that visibly vibrate as it roars.

Trivia
- The Scyllaβ was originally added with default roar sounds, not those that the original devasaur had. After its remodel was added, it would get its roars back.
- Scyllaβ shares its R roar with the Wyvern skin, although the Wyvern had the roar before Scylla's addition.

Scylla has three tails, each ending in a dog-like skull placed upside-down with the middle tail's skull falling forward whilst it is in the growl animation. Scylla also holds bulky, mantis-like arms similar to the Scyllaβ skin.
