Brought to you by the Australian Roleplay Community, it's hosted by Dan Machuca, Stevie Schafer, and Kate O'Sullivan of Dungeons & Doctorates and Meeples & Dragons, as well as PAXAus's Crit or Kiss panel. The Heralds of Faerûn, or simply the Heralds, were a quasi-independent group of historians and heraldists that took on the responsibility of recording, preserving, and policing the coats of arms, flags, standards, shields, badges, mottoes, symbols, and sigils of armigerous individuals, families, houses, kingdoms, cities, organizations, and mercantile and mercenary companies across most of Faerûn.

Founded in the Year of the Watching Helm, 992 DR, as part of the Harpers, it eventually became difficult for the Heralds to maintain their neutrality and uphold their reputation for impartiality, so they split from the Harpers in the Year of the Empty Scabbard, 1116 DR. The Heralds policed themselves rigorously, removing members who abused their position of power, even reluctantly resorting to assassination in the most egregious cases of corruption. As a result, the Heralds' influence and recognition spread to cover almost every corner of Faerûn west of Thay.

The organization was led by a small council known as the High Heralds, and their apprentices and assistants were called the Heralds Pursuivant. Below these were the many local Heralds in almost every town of adequate size, and the "court heralds" that performed diplomatic services for their sovereign while trying to uphold the ideals of the Heralds. Together they formed a vast information gathering network that was frustratingly difficult to thwart.

New & Upcoming Releases

Ravenloft: Heir of Strahd by Delilah S. Dawson is the first 5th-edition Dungeons & Dragons® novel set in the Ravenloft setting. It was released in May 13, 2025.

Five strangers armed with steel and magic awaken in a mist-shrouded land, with no memory of how they arrived: Rotrog, a prideful orcish wizard; Chivarion, a sardonic drow barbarian; Alishai, an embittered tiefling paladin; Kah, a skittish kenku cleric; and Fielle, a sunny human artificer. After they barely survive a nightmarish welcome to the realm of Barovia, a carriage arrives bearing an invitation...

With no alternative, and determined to find their way home, the strangers accept the summons and travel to the forbidding manor of the mysterious count. But all is not well at Castle Ravenloft. To survive the twisted enigmas of Strahd and his haunted home, the adventurers must confront the dark secrets in their own hearts and find a way to shift from strangers to comrades—before the mists of Barovia claim them forever.

The adventure takes place in the Neverwinter region of the Sword Coast, and the characters are tasked to escort mining supplies to Phandalin. Rumored to exist somewhere near Phandalin is the legendary Wave Echo Cave. During their escort quest, the adventurers are quickly assaulted by the Cragmaw tribe of goblinoids. They later find out that the dwarf who set them on the task, Gundren Rockseeker, has been captured by the same tribe that assaulted them. Their task is to rescue Gundren, and find out what he has learned about the mysterious cave. Throughout their adventure, the characters can seek out the Forge of Spells or even take on the young green dragon, Venomfang.

Today in the Realms...

...it is 1 Flamerule, or the 1st of Summertide. Selûne is a full moon 🌕. On this day:

Realmslore

  • Norland was a kingdom of the Moonshae Isles inhabited by Northlanders. Despite a history of enmity with the other peoples of the Moonshaes, Norland was one of the Northlander realms that swore fealty to High Queen Alicia Kendrick and joined the United Moonshae Isles.
  • Vulture's Roost was the stronghold of the warlord Aleta Vanmarwin, alias "The Vulture", in Battledale. The fortification's palisade was built of wood from not only trees, but also treants who had been chopped down, with their enraged spirits bound into the walls.
  • Hillard was a captain of Cormyr's Purple Dragons stationed in the prison-town of Wheloon. He was in charge of defending the prison walls when the area came under attack by Shadowfell forces bent on freeing the Sharran priest Dedryk Black.
  • Sineater was an enormous purple worm that dwelled in the Deep Wastes of the Underdark. The drow Feryl Cay'Vorym ran a bloodsport arena where he enjoyed pitting kidnapped Purple Dragons against insurmountable foes, such as Sineater. Unfortunately, Sineater and his fellow worms collapsed the entire arena.
  • Galath was an apprentice of the Magelords of Athalantar. The senior Magelords, such as Briost Elthauryn, found him too eager, inept, and tiresome. They wondered if he was even capable of unrolling a scroll or putting on a tabard the right way.
  • The Sea Reaver was a powerful magical scythe originally from Rashemen, where it was wielded by the legendary hero Igulik against an evil wizard. Later, master smiths such as Marrok of Neverwinter created less potent copies of the scythe.
  • Nyrulna was an enchanted trident forged by Forgemaster Lirrico for a champion of Akadi, Lady of the Winds. The main ingredient for the forging was the very wind of Lirrico's home city, and no winds blew there for a full year after it was complete.
  • Astral searchers were creatures from the Astral Plane that mindlessly sought planar weak points where they could invade the Prime Material, and thus possess humanoids. They accomplished this by destroying their victim's psyche, memories and all.
  • Begging fakery was a scam employed by ne'er-do-wells across Faerûn, where they would acquire crutches, bandages and the like to make themselves appear injured and pull at people's heartstrings for coin. Aurora's Emporium, a prime supplier of medical gear, refused to sell items for such purposes.
  • Custard was a yellow, wobbly, and sticky sauce made from milk, cheese, or cream cooked with egg. The god Finder Wyvernspur sometimes presented guests to his divine realm with a full breakfast that naturally included custard.
