The Weekly — Week 363: Many a Mickle |
---|
![]()
Squeezing in here for a shorter-than-usual entry window (in order to still keep the usual Weekly cadence), this week I'm giving the prompt of little things that add up to a big one. I'd like stories about the small things, small people; the small cogs within the whole that are layers or miles away from ever making a decisive difference directly. Whether they make such a difference indirectly or not is up to you; whatever you find more interesting, or that you think I might find more interesting - I'm equally open to the best intentions and efforts being swalloed up by the sheer scale of the things they slot into, as I am to kingdoms being lost for want of a horseshoe nail. What these things are is also up to you - small components in a complex machine or ship; small soldiers in a battlefield operating at terrifying scale; small jobs in an interstellar supply chain. Since it's been a pretty successful target length to date, you've got 1,500 words to write a story that'll have Tide sueing me for copying his Halo: Invisibles! |

Random Good Article: Remembrance-class Frigate |
---|
![]() The Remembrance-class frigate was a class of frigates utilised by the United Nations Space Command, which served between 2512 and 2678, seeing several major galactic conflicts including the Human-Covenant War, Remnant War and Swarm War. Commonly referred to as the UNSC frigate, the mass-produced Remembrance-class frigate was one of the most common and long-serving UNSC Navy vessels in service; as a result, its image and presence was often seen to symbolise UNSC naval power. This was in stark contrast to the terrible rate of destruction experienced by the class during the 2525-52 Great War. |

Fanon of the Month — May 2025: Erin-G174 |
---|
![]() Originally conscripted as the youngest of the Beta recruits, Erin struggled with many of the requirements she was expected to meet. She became afflicted with an at-the-time unknown illness during her third year of training, and at Kurt's request was put on ice until a cure could be discovered. When she was eventually woken from her cryosleep, the delay in her treatment left her unable to graduate with the rest of her unit. She was offered a second chance as part of Gamma Company, where her previous experience as a Spartan recruit allowed her to excel early on and achieve success as the leader of Team Glaive. Her time in charge of Team Glaive was short-lived, however. At the war's conclusion, Erin's fireteam was disbanded. Alone, she was thrust into a VIP protection role in the Diplomatic Corps for a brief time before being invited into the Anvil Initiative after her actions following the Dar es-Salaam incident. Despite early tensions, Erin would eventually become close friends with her Riftborn partner Sintu. |

Mythic Article of the Year: Mobile warfare by Ahalosniper |
---|
![]() Mobile warfare, also known as "walker warfare" or—informally— "mech warfare", is the use of walking vehicles in modern warfare. While long considered a marginal and esoteric doctrine, the practice of employing walking vehicles (or "mechs") in armed conflict has seen a resurgence since the beginning of the 26th century and proliferation in the balkanized galaxy following the Human-Covenant War. While fundamentally similar to armoured warfare in its use of armored vehicles, the enhanced mobility of walkers and their stability on the varied and often difficult terrain of extrasolar worlds has resulted in altogether new approaches to warfighting. These changes have since necessitated military academics to consider mobile warfare its own discipline. Read more»

Writer of the Year 2024: TheAussie1417 |

![]() Winner of the 2024 Best Vehicle, Best Event award(s). G'day! I'm TheAussie1417, and I'm a very big fan of Halo, and its lore. I've always felt that many areas of Halo don't have as much depth to them as they could, unlike Warhammer or Star Wars, and so I've committed myself to either developing new avenues for canonical expansion, or just writing about ideas that pop into my head.
