Black Lagoon (ブラック・ラグーン Burakku Ragūn) is a manga series written and illustrated by Rei Hiroe and published in Shogakukan's Monthly Sunday Gene-X since 2002. The manga currently has thirteen volumes as of December 2023. Additionally, there is an anime series consisting of three seasons (24 episodes and 5 OVAs). The first two seasons were released in 2006 and the OVAs were released from 2010 to 2011.
The story follows a team of pirates/mercenaries known as the Lagoon Company that smuggles goods in and around the seas of Southeast Asia during the mid to late 1990s.

The 13th Black Lagoon volume was released in Japan on December 19, 2023 while the English version was released on December 17, 2024. Mister Chang is the Black Lagoon Volume 13 cover character, making him the first male character to be featured on a volume cover.
"Groovy Guy" Russell ("グルーヴィ・ガイ"・ラッセル "Gurūvi Gai" Rasseru), often shortened to Russell (ラッセル Rasseru), was a middle-aged American man who worked for the Florida-based Girolamo Famiglia and the crime syndicate that was tracking Jane. He had previously seen Eda in Washington, D.C. while on a job to recover an item for U.S. Senator Jack Bonham.
