Life on Our Planet Wiki

The series focuses on the evolutionary history of life on Earth. Each episode focuses on few specific geological periods and the animals that lived during those times. Prehistoric life is visualized in photorealistic VFX by Industrial Light and Magic. The show also features modern animals that can trace their ancestry back to the past, being depicted in live-action segments akin to traditional nature documentaries.

October 1, 2024:

The Life on Our Planet Wiki is now one year old. Our Planet Live has been announced: a new and immersive live show featuring behind-the-scenes stories from the explorers, filmmakers, scientists, and adventurers that created the Netflix documentaries Our Planet and Life on Our Planet. Live lectures on Life on Our Planet will take place in intervals between October 3 - May 25 in locations around North America and the UK. Book tickets here.

September 15, 2024:

Life on Our Planet is now an Emmy^® nominee. Despite being nominated for the Primetime Emmy Award for Outstanding Narrator of 2024, Morgan Freeman did not win (award went to Angela Bassett, who narrated Queens).

May 29, 2024:

A next iteration of Life on Our Planet has been greenlighted by Netflix. Four new episodes will “tell the story of the rise and fall of the dinosaurs – where they came from, why they mattered, how they evolved and how they met their ultimate fate.” A release date has currently not been announced. Throughout billions of years, planet Earth's continents have shifted to different positions than where they are today. The map below shows the locations of where both the modern animals featured in the series live and where the fossilized remains of prehistoric animals have been found. Although it is not entirely accurate, this map is sufficient for the purpose of showing the locations of the various modern day settings and where the extinct animals featured in the stories of this series were uncovered.
