Baits

Overview

Baits are special consumable items that can be purchased from the Bait Shop run by Ilse, the Bait Vending Machine at Smuggler's Bay, or the Wandering Merchant. It can be used while fishing, giving different Fishing Rod perks or allowing players to catch special Exotic fish.

At first, clicking the 'Buy' button would only give 1 bait at a time, making buying large amounts of bait time consuming. However, as of the 3.9.7 update, clicking the 'Buy' button will display a small black textbox where the player can enter the amount of bait they want to buy, making the process of buying bait significantly faster. Another addition in this update is the bait autolock setting, which is turned on by default. This setting will automatically lock any bait that is bought, preventing it from accidentially being sold.

Bait Types
There are two types of baits - Equippable and Scatterable.

Equippable baits can be used by selecting the desired bait, then clicking to attach it to the Fishing Rod. Each bite from a fish with an Equippable Bait consumes one use and will continue to do so until the Uses Meter at the top depletes to 0, whether a fish is caught or not. The Tackle Box game pass automatically equips multiple equippable baits at once for uninterrupted fishing.

Scatterable Baits are a type of bait that can be used by going anywhere on the map, depending on the individual bait, and throwing it into the water by clicking on the screen. Doing this will create a ring or special visual effect that will show that the bait is active and ready for use. Anybody can get the perks of Scatterable bait by fishing in the ring. The time scatterable baits lasts in the water depends on the bait thrown.

Also, players are allowed to have only one Scatterable bait active at any given time and cannot throw Scatterable bait onto other players' active bait circles. If a player throws Scatterable bait on top of another active bait that they own, it will replace the previous bait. Attempting to cast bait onto another individual's bait circle will give the message, "Cannot place bait over someone else's".

It is highly advised to not use special fish baits like the Spycheeto Bag or The Millionth Dollar in Timeless Tides as it can cause glitches such as the fish not appearing in the fish index and not getting the badge when the exotic fish is caught.

Selling Baits
Selling baits is a feature introduced in update version 3.4.4 on February 10, 2024. It allows only equippable baits purchased with coins to be sold for 20% of the purchase price. Sell prices for each bait will be mentioned on individual pages, if applicable. Bait cannot be sold once used. If you have no purpose for your bait(s), they may be stored in a vault or locked in your inventory.
