Traveler

Aether and Lumine redirect here. For non-Traveler versions, see Traveler's Sibling.

The Traveler is the playable protagonist of Genshin Impact. In the opening cutscene, twin siblings from another world travel through the universe, until an unknown god blocks their path. The player gets to choose either Aether (male) or Lumine (female) as the traveler and the Traveler's Sibling becomes captured.

Their power to travel is sealed, leaving them stranded on Teyvat. They save Paimon by fishing her out of the water and she accompanies them as their new travel companion. Together they set out on a journey to find The Seven and reunite with the Traveler's lost sibling.

Although players can choose the name they want to be referred by, the Traveler's Sibling refers to the Traveler by their real name, regardless of their custom name. In Natlan, the Traveler also gains the Ancient Name TMN ("TMN," Tumaini).

Elemental Alignment

At the beginning of the game and in The Crux Clash in Chapter II: Prologue - Autumn Winds, Scarlet Leaves, the Traveler is "unaligned," a special elemental state exclusive to them. When unaligned, the color of the Traveler's "vision" and background when they are selected in the Character Menu is gray. Although the Traveler's Profile lists their Constellation properly as Viator/Viatrix, attempting to open the Constellation tab will show a blank screen with "Constellation Unavailable" in the bottom-right corner. When unaligned, the Traveler has only one talent, Normal Attack: Past Memories.

When unaligned, screens that show character cards with their elements show a gray "no" symbol (🚫︎) in the place of the element symbol.

Shortly after the beginning of the game, the Traveler will unlock their Anemo Talents and Constellation by resonating with the first Statue of The Seven in Mondstadt. They can resonate with any other Statue of The Seven they find and change their element to match the statue's element. See Teyvat for each region's element.

However, the Traveler does not gain the Pyro element upon resonating with a Statue of The Seven in Natlan, due to corrupted Ley Lines in the region. They instead unlock their abilities during Where All Hopes Lie in Chapter V: Act V - Incandescent Ode of Resurrection.

Palm Vortex
Elemental Skill

  • Attribute Scaling
  • Preview

Grasping the wind's might, you form a vortex of vacuum in your palm, causing continuous Anemo DMG to opponents in front of you.
The vacuum vortex explodes when the skill duration ends, causing a greater amount of Anemo DMG over a larger area.

Hold
DMG and AoE will gradually increase.

Elemental Absorption
If the vortex comes into contact with Hydro/Pyro/Cryo/Electro, it will deal additional Elemental DMG of that type.
Elemental Absorption may only occur once per use.

  • When this skill hits at least one enemy, it generates 2 Elemental Particles if it was pressed and 3.33 if it was held.
    • Only the final hit of this skill generates Elemental Particles.
  • The DMG multiplier of the absorbed element is 25% of the Anemo DMG multiplier.
  • When the skill button is held, Initial Cutting DMG ticks 2 times (at 0.35s and 0.5s), then it switches to Max Cutting DMG, which ticks 4 more times (at 0.85s, 1s, 1.35s and 1.5s).
  • When the skill button is pressed, it will immediately trigger Initial Storm DMG.
  • Elemental Absorption can occur from both elements on the target as well as elements afflicting the Traveler.
  • Unlike other Talents with Elemental Absorption, Anemo Traveler's absorption priority is Cryo / Frozen > Pyro > Hydro > Electro.

Guiding the path of the wind currents, you summon a forward-moving tornado that pulls objects and opponents towards itself, dealing continuous Anemo DMG.

Elemental Absorption
If the tornado comes into contact with Hydro/Pyro/Cryo/Electro, it will deal additional Elemental DMG of that type.
Elemental Absorption may only occur once per use.

  • Tornado DMG and Additional Elemental DMG can strike up to 9 times: once every 0.5 seconds from 2 to 6 seconds after activating Gust Surge.
  • Unlike other Talents with Elemental Absorption, Anemo Traveler's absorption priority is Cryo > Pyro > Hydro > Electro.
  • The tornado will continuously apply a Struggle state to enemies near it whose weight is less than or equal to 100, preventing them from performing any actions and allowing them to be lifted into the air by the Vacuum Field.
    • However, the Struggle state will not be applied to enemies more than 20 levels higher than Traveler.

Flowfire Blade
Elemental Skill
  • Description
  • Gameplay Notes
  • Advanced Properties

Wields a searing flame that can incinerate the very earth. Has different effects when Tapped or Held.

(PressPress/TapTap)
Call forth flames in a raging blaze. When used, the Traveler gains 42 Nightsoul point and enters the Nightsoul's Blessing state, summoning a Blazing Threshold that follows the current active character.
When the Blazing Threshold gets close to opponents, it will deal Nightsoul-aligned Pyro DMG to nearby opponents at intervals.

Hold
Unleash fire in a composed manner, dealing Nightsoul-aligned AoE Pyro DMG to nearby opponents. When used, the Traveler gains 42 Nightsoul points and enters the Nightsoul's Blessing state, summoning a Scorching Threshold that follows the current active character.
When the current active character within a Scorching Threshold deals DMG to opponents, the Threshold will launch a Coordinated Attack that deals Nightsoul-aligned Pyro DMG based on the Traveler's ATK. This effect can occur once every 3s.

Nightsoul's Blessing: Traveler
Continuously consumes Nightsoul points. The Traveler's Nightsoul's Blessing state lasts 12s at maximum, and when their Nightsoul points are exhausted, this state will end. If this Elemental Skill is used again while active, the Traveler's Nightsoul points will be reset to 42 points.
Blazing and Scorching Thresholds will disappear once the Traveler's Nightsoul's Blessing state ends, and only 1 Blazing or Scorching Threshold summoned by the Traveler themselves can exist at any one time.

  • When Blazing Threshold or Scorching Threshold hits at least one enemy, it generates 1 Elemental Particle.
    • This particle generation can occur once every 2.9 seconds.
  • Blazing Threshold attacks once every 1s.
  • Scorching Threshold will also launch Coordinated Attack when an off-field character deals DMG to opponents, even though the talent description only mentions active character.
  • While in Nightsoul's Blessing, the Traveler will consume 7.5 Nightsoul Points per second.
  • When the Traveler's Nightsoul's Blessing state ends, any of their remaining Nightsoul Points will be depleted.
