Alchemist

Slow internet my guy, sorry.

This page contains a lot of content and many images, so it may be difficult for your device/web browser to load it.

Jesse, we need to cook.
―Walter White, Breaking Bad

Overview

Alchemist is a glove added on October 20, 2023 requiring the Containment Breach badge. Visually, the glove resembles a hand soaked in green liquid coming out of a cauldron with small potions of varying colors adorning it. The glove also releases tiny glowing green particles.

Obtainment

To unlock the Alchemist glove, you need the Containment Breach badge. To get this badge, you must kill 10 different players in a single life using the Plague glove’s passive ability.

This glove is obtainable in private servers.

Ability

Alchemist's ability, "Summon Cauldron", allows the user to summon a cauldron. This cauldron is normally sized and contains a slanted wooden spoon resting in a mysterious blue liquid. The user can create potions by gathering ingredients found throughout the map by clicking them or walking over them, which are kept in an inventory UI at the bottom left of the screen labeled Ingredients. When holding an ingredient, the user can click on the cauldron's liquid to mix it in, changing its color. Clicking the spoon then brews a potion that gets added to the player's regular inventory, along with their glove. If the recipe is wrong, the cauldron will explode, resetting the liquid and knocking back anyone nearby. Note that the game doesn't provide the recipes. Potions and ingredients can be stacked. Only the Alchemist can use the cauldron, and other players can't interact with the spoon. If the ability is used again, the previous cauldron is removed, and any ingredients inside are cleared.

Drink Potions: Interacting with the screen allows the user to drink the potion, which will provide effects depending on the type of potion.

Throw Potions: Certain potions can be thrown by holding down the mouse or using mobile buttons. Throwing potions breaks them in front of the player, affecting anyone within the splash radius. However, potions like Power, Haste, and Invincibility can't be thrown to prevent overpowering certain gloves. Corrupted potions are also restricted from being thrown, as they could disrupt gameplay.

Toxin Bar: When the user drinks a potion for the first time, a Toxin Bar will show up above the Ingredients UI. Each potion that's consumed contributes 1/4 to the bar. The bar will slowly reset over time, taking 20 seconds to clear 1/4. Once the bar is cleared, it will disappear again. If the Toxin Bar is completely full, the user dies.

Potions

Potions you can brew with the ability. There are a total of 20 potions you can brew, with 2 being corrupted and one being a non-potion food item. Below are the potions and the ingredients needed to brew them.

Pros and Cons

Pros

  • Many potions are portable and short-range variants of other glove abilities, making them easier to hit others and having an AOE that can affect multiple players at once with one throw.
  • Good power and good speed for the glove itself.
  • If you know that you put the wrong ingredients, you can spawn the cauldron again to restart.
  • Extraordinarily high utility, as there are multiple potions that make alchemist better versions of other gloves, along with being able to make more than one of each potion.
    • The Nightmare potion is simple and cheap to make using 3 dark roots with the same ability as the Nightmare glove.
    • The Confusion potion is cheap using a blue and red crystal, and a glowing mushroom with the same ability as the Confusion glove.
    • Both the Haste and Power potion mimic one-shot gloves.
    • The Paralyzing potion is very cheap needing only 2 plane flowers for a very strong effect lasting 10 seconds.
    • The Invisible potion allows the player to completely hide away for 10 seconds, disorienting opponents.
    • The Expotion has been updated to have lower knockback, making it very easy to combo with when used repeatedly on opponents. It is especially strong against opponents near the edge.
    • The Feather and Speed potions provide greater movement options.
    • The Toxic potion is a better version of the Plague glove as the player does not need to slap others to give them the effect.
    • The Lethal Poison potion can instantly kill anybody when thrown, being one of the only ranged weapons in the game to do so.
    • The Antitoxin potion removes toxin from the player without being forced to hit others to get rid of it.
  • You can easily fight players with passive gloves.
  • Thrown potions bypass some abilities.
  • Players usually can't make out which potion you are holding and if they can, you can instantly take them out before use so that they don't know what to expect.
  • The Invincibility potion is extremely good at avoiding people and getting ingredients since you can't be ragdolled or hit, meaning most gloves and their abilities can't kill you.
  • Useful for players with a pacifist playstyle, as the invincibility potion makes you immune to almost everything.

Neutral

  • When the Expotion potion is used, it will knock you back along with other people. This can only be stopped with the invincibility potion.
    • This could also be seen as a pro, as you can use this to your advantage to push yourself away from the edge.
    • This could also be seen as a con if you are on one of the smaller islands without an invincibility potion.

Cons

  • This glove requires a significant amount of memorization to fully utilize its power, deterring most players from using it effectively.
    • Those who instead use a manual are at a significant disadvantage as they are forced to repeatedly look back at recipes, consuming time.
  • Upon death, the player loses all their ingredients and potions and is forced to start over completely.
  • Some potions cannot be thrown to others (Power, Haste, Invincible, Feather, Speed).
  • Some potions have negative effects when drank (Nightmare, Confusion, Paralyzing, Expotion, Toxic, Freeze, Lethal Poison, Slow).
  • Some potions take many ingredients to make per potion (Confusion, Power, and Toxic taking 3 different ingredients to make and Freeze, Speed, Slow, and Antitoxin taking 4 different ingredients to make), using up a lot of time.
  • The Lethal Poison potion is the most expensive potion to make, requiring 20 ingredients (10 Blood Roses, 10 Dark Roots) in total.
  • You cannot tell visually if a potion is about to run out of effect.
  • The player has limited freedom with drinking potions as they cannot exceed the toxin bar.
  • Ingredients are scattered around the map, so when you're finding ingredients to make potions, you're making yourself an easy target.
    • Ingredients may be hard to acquire, due to them spawning far out in the map.
    • Spawn locations are randomly generated and the time needed to find a specific ingredient will vary.
  • Failing a recipe will lead to an explosion in the cauldron knocking you back.
  • You can be ambushed when you're busy with your cauldron.
    • Because of this, it is highly recommended to put your cauldron on one of the side islands facing the main one to avoid ambushes. This also prevents failed recipe explosions from killing you as the tree saves you from getting knocked into the void.
  • Reaper, potato, Plague, and Link users could kill you if they slapped you before you drink the invincibility potion (although the plague can be removed with the Antitoxin potion.)

Trivia

  • This glove's ability name is identical to the mantra "Summon Cauldron" from "Deepwoken." This is more than likely a reference considering Tencell is an avid player of Deepwoken.
  • This glove's ability may also be a reference to the "Alchemist" subclass from "Rogue Lineage,” based on the sound.
  • Similar to Home Run, you were able to stand on the glove on the stand. Again, the developers probably forgot to remove collision.
  • The character in the banner can be a reference to the character called "Alchemist" in Soul Knight.
  • A YouTuber named Bilify is in the banner, he's on the wanted poster in the background.
    • This is the second banner to have a youtuber as an easter egg. The first is Hitman (with Tencell) and the third is Fan (with Nonsense).
    • There is also a wizard wearing the alchemist hood UGC as seen at the banner. Currently, the UGC is out of stock.
  • This is the first and only badge glove to tell you how to use it in the tooltip. This is the 2nd glove to do this, the first being Killstreak.
  • At the glove's release you could only brew 16 potions, since then they have added:
    • Corrupted Vine Potion (for Druid)
    • Corrupted Field Potion (for Scythe)
    • Idiot Potion (now deleted)
    • Birthday Cake (for Firework)
    • Lost Potion (for Bind)
  • The Cake Mix has the lowest spawn chance out of all ingredients.
  • Originally, you would only be able to brew 4 of each potion, but this cap has now been increased, it is unknown how far it has been increased, but you can go over 100 of one potion, so they might have removed the cap.
  • If Grugoss changes his avatar in Roblox, the Grug potion will turn you into the current Grug avatar, making this potion the ONLY potion that has some form of randomness, and that it's completely controllable by just one person, Grug himself.
  • The Ice potion does not extinguish OVERKILL.
  • The name of the "Expotion" is a play on the words "explosion" and "potion.”
  • The Lamp Grass is the only ingredient that is not used to brew any kind of potion.
  • Just like when Null and Tinkerer came out, the active players of Slap Battles went very high for the day. This was because of the UGCs that were released during the updates.
  • There is a bug where dying without grabbing ingredients will cause ingredients to spawn less frequently, eventually leading to them never spawning at all, forcing you to rejoin. This might be because there is a cap to the amount of ingredients spawned at a time, and ingredients never fully de-spawning when you die.
  • It is possible to make the Idiot Potion even though it was removed prior. The player must go to a private server and do it the normal way, however there is no mobile GUI for it and only those PC can only drink it (console hasn't been tested to do anything yet.) It can only be made once per server.
  • Players who are under the effect of the Invincible potion will not get knocked back by Tableflip. On the other hand, the table can sometimes get them stuck on it and push them to the void anyway.
  • Players who are under the effect of the Invincible potion will not die to MEGAROCK and can even stand on it, leaving other onlookers confused. If the rock is too high, they can drink a Feather potion to get there.
  • Players who are under the effect of the Invincible potion will still die to the Cube of Death.
  • This is the fourth glove to be able to put out the Plague effect without having to slap someone else, the first being Diamond, the second being MEGAROCK, the fourth being CUSTOM, the fifth being Pocket, and the sixth being El gato.
